Teodor Martin Dumitrescu Solo Show Urge Palette Teodor M. Dumitrescu is a Romanian born artist and illustrator. He received a Bachelors in Fine Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2002 where his thesis work focused on fantastical images of old and new world nostalgia. His studies included extensive scientific illustration and natural history illustration work. He has exhibited internationally and his work is evolving to include more elements relative to the preservation of both memory and the natural world.

Providence of Night La Sierra University Sculptor Ben Jackel, who creates work from wood, stoneware, hardware and other media, is exhibiting in a show titled Providence of Night at the Brandstater Gallery on the La Sierra University campus. Jackel has exhibited around the country, as well as in Colombia, Peru, China, Palestine, Switzerland, Bosnia and Spain. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Admission is free.

Asian Pacific Lunar New Year Festival Asian Pacific Cultural Association Visitors in Downtown Riverside will be transported to the beauty of the magnificent ancient Orient, beginning with a spectacular parade of nations at 10:00 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 10:45 a.m. The day includes traditional Asian music, Taiko drums, dance performances, art displays, martial arts demonstrations, anime cosplayers and a wide range of Asian cultural displays of various kinds featuring both community and professional groups. Also featured will be a children’s village with free arts and crafts activities, and a health expo hosted by local medical professionals that bring the art of the mind, body and spirit into one’s well being. Authentic Asian foods will be available for throughout the day, as will a variety of teas at the Tea Pavilion.

Concert Pianist James Dick with LSU Orchestra La Sierra University James Dick, an internationally renowned concert pianist, will join the La Sierra University Orchestra in a concert at Hole Memorial Auditorium. Under direction of Dean Anderson, Dick and the orchestra will play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 and Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 104. Dick has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony and many other top groups and artists. Dick studied at the University of Texas with Dalies Frantz, and later became a Fulbright Scholar studying with Sir Clifford Frantz. He has performed in such venues as New York's Carnegie Hall, London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, Le Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Tickets are $15 general admission. Tickets purchased at the door are full price. The following discounts are available online: $10 for seniors age 55 and over, $5 for students and teachers. Children age 12 and under are free. Season passes are available for Department of Music events. Proceeds fund student scholarships and music festival/tour opportunities.

Cheech Marin's Chicano Art Collection Comes to Riverside Riverside Art Museum Papel Chicano Dos: Works on Paper, from the collection of Cheech Marin, features 65 works of art by 24 established and early-career artists. The pieces demonstrate a myriad range of techniques, from watercolor and aquatint to pastel and mixed media. Dating from the late 1980s to present day, the work presented in Papel Chicano Dos offer iconic imagery with influences ranging from pre-Hispanic symbols and post-revolutionary nationalistic Mexican motifs to the Chicano movement of the 1960s and contemporary urban culture.

California Baptist University A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who knows what’s in that trunk. When the ship is taken over by pirates (led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own) the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure. Mary Poppins Riverside Live The magical story of the world’s favorite nanny arriving on Cherry Tree Lane was triumphantly and spectacularly brought to the stage with dazzling choreography, incredible effects and unforgettable songs in its 2004 London debut. The musical stage version is adapted from the wonderful stories by PL Travers and the beloved 1964 Walt Disney film.
